What is Lutein?

Lutein is a reddish or yellowish pigment found in leafy greens, fruits, and other vegetables. It is also found in the macula. The macula is a photoreceptor cell located at the back of the eye. This cell’s job is to detect light and signal the brain to interpret what the light detected means.

Basically, the macula is that cell that helps ensure the proper amount and type of light hits the eyes to prevent any damage. When the macular has a fault, we lose our central vision and sight in some instances.

Lutein is a carotenoid that has shown to reduce the inflammatory properties in the eyes, preventing the occurrence of eye problems while maintaining the perfect vision. Although Lutein has many benefits, it has shown incredible prospects in restoring the visual clarity of users on this supplement.

It does this by improving and preventing macular degeneration, which is the leading cause of blindness and visual impairment.

The efficiency of the eyesight is bound to reduce as we grow older. However, the true cause has not been accurately determined, but experts think poor diet and lack of proper care are part of it. Furthermore, we are a generation that spends hours watching screens emitting blue lights that affect the eyes. Whether it is your smartphone, TV, computers, or other display devices, these gadgets are slowly but inevitably increasing our risk of macular degeneration disease.

Macular Degeneration Disease – macular degeneration due to age is the principal cause of blindness and vision impairment in mature people in the developed and developing world. This is further exaggerated with the low consumption of foods that contain Lutein. However, studies show that taking a Lutein supplement improves the macular density and visual acuteness.

Cataract – is another eye health problem responsible for vision loss. This occurs due to the oxidation of the optical lens. Lutein supplement acts as an antioxidant to prevent the build-up of bovine cells that cover the lens on the eye. Lutein also prevents harmful light rays from damaging the eye lens too.
